de-stressing from Hurricane Rita...
Rita has come and gone! We were extremely lucky here in Houston to have been spared yet again. Lots of trees down and some damage to houses in the suburbs, but she bypassed Houston Proper, for the most part. The massive evacuation of Houston was successful depending on who you talk to. Galveston to Houston, a 45 mile trip, took 6 hours for those folks. Houston to Dallas, a 3 and half hour drive normally, was taking an unbelievable 19 hours. Massive traffic gridlock on every route out of town, only to be topped by the fact that ALL, I repeat... ALL... gasoline in Houston and the surrounding counties for hundreds of miles was nonexistant. Gas stations have only just started to be replenished as of today. The largest evacuation of a major American City in history did have it's share of problems, but I think many lessons were learned. I spent the evening/night of landfall with my friends in their very solid home and we had a good time by prepping the house and then going swimming in their pool after everything was done. I even got a new icon out of it - see upper left corner...! Thanks to ALL of you who left words of concern and encouragement during our period of uncertainty... you all know who you are... my new buzznet family!
